Rancho Mirage is the valley's estate city, and its tile is mostly stone. Travertine floors from the 1980s and 90s run through Thunderbird Heights, Tamarisk, The Springs and Mission Hills by the acre, and after thirty years of foot traffic they're hollow in the hallway, chipped at the doorways and dull everywhere. Restoring and replacing that stone — matched, reset, re-honed — is half of what we do in Rancho Mirage.

The other half is remodels in the condo communities along Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra: Rancho Las Palmas, Sunrise Country Club, the Mission Hills condos. Tub-to-shower conversions, new backsplashes behind waterfall islands, and 2,000-square-foot whole-house floors in one tile that have to flow room to room without fighting a doorway.

What we know

Rancho Mirage specifics

Matching thirty-year-old travertine

Travertine varies by quarry and by decade. We hunt for the closest match, dry-lay it next to the original, and when a perfect match doesn't exist we design a transition — a border, a change at a threshold — that reads as intentional.

Whole-house floors that flow

Rancho Mirage estates often get one tile from the entry through the great room and down every hall. We plan the layout across the whole plan before the first tile so grout lines run true from the front door to the back.

Mid-century on the mountain side

The Alexanders and other mid-century homes near the mountains want period-right tile: terrazzo-look porcelain, honed stone, simple grids. We keep the proportions the original architect intended.

Rancho Mirage FAQ

Can you repair hollow or chipped travertine in a Rancho Mirage home?

Yes — we lift the loose pieces, clean the bed, reset them over fresh mortar, fill the chips and re-hone the area so it matches the floor around it. For badly worn floors we discuss replacing sections or the whole room.

Do you do backsplashes behind waterfall islands and slab counters?

All the time in Rancho Mirage kitchens. We template the splash to the counter's veining, align grout lines with the island edge and finish the ends with profiles that match the slab.

How do you handle a 2,000-square-foot tile floor?

In zones, planned as one layout. The slab is flattened room by room, the layout is set from the main sightline, and the family keeps the use of half the house while we work the other half.
