Vinyl plank & laminate flooring

Waterproof vinyl plank and laminate floors over the slab — flat, moisture-tested and finished at every edge.

Vinyl plank and laminate flooring installation is the laying of click-together waterproof vinyl (LVP) or laminate planks over a prepared slab or subfloor — a floating floor that needs a flat, dry base, expansion gaps at the walls and proper transitions to tile and carpet.

Not every room wants tile. Bedrooms, offices and rentals get vinyl plank for the warmth underfoot, the price and the speed — a whole house in a few days instead of a few weeks. Waterproof cores have made it a real option for kitchens and laundry rooms too, and the wood looks have gotten good enough that guests ask.

The floor still has to be flat and dry. Vinyl telegraphs every ridge in a slab, and a slab that's wicking moisture will lift any floating floor eventually. We moisture-test the slab, grind or level it, then lay the planks with the right expansion gaps, undercut the door jambs so the planks slide under instead of being cut around, and finish every transition.

  • Underlayment or vapor barrier as the plank manufacturer requires

How it works

Three steps
  1. 01

Test the slab, plan the rooms

A moisture test and a straightedge tell us what the slab needs. You get an estimate per room with plank, prep and transitions listed.

  2. 02

    Remove and prep

Old flooring out, adhesive scraped, slab flattened. The quiet part of the job and the reason the floor stays flat.

  3. 03

    Lay and finish

Planks go down fast once the base is right. Jambs undercut, transitions set, baseboards back on, furniture back the same day.

Fair questions

Vinyl plank & laminate flooring FAQ

Is vinyl plank really waterproof?

Rigid-core vinyl plank doesn't swell when water sits on it, which is what waterproof means here. Water can still get under a floating floor through the gaps at the walls, so it isn't a substitute for tile in a shower.

How fast can you install vinyl plank?

A typical bedroom in a day; a whole house in three to five days depending on how much old flooring comes out and how much the slab needs. The floor can be walked on immediately.

Vinyl plank or tile — which is better in the desert?

Tile for wet rooms, high-traffic areas and anywhere you want a floor that lasts the life of the house. Vinyl plank for bedrooms, offices and budget-driven whole-house projects. Many valley homes use tile in the main living areas and plank in the bedrooms.
